Amazon.com Product Description
Combining stylish looks with power sport timing and heart rate monitoring features, this larger Timex Ironman Triathlon watch (model T5C401) can be worn by both men and women. It features a chest strap heart rate monitor, easily accessible function buttons, and Timex's comfortable doubleshot polyurethane strap. For integrating heart rate monitoring into your training, this watch enables you to track your avareage heart rate and pre-set target heart rate zones with data for time spent within that zone and alarms. It can also display data for calories burned and offers a recovery timer that measures your heart rate after a timed recovery during or after your workout. Sport timing features include:
  • 100-hour chronograph with lap and split, either in large digits
  • 30-lap memory with average heart rate per laps
  • 100-hour, 3-mode countdown timer
  • Alarm with 5-minute backup
  • Month/day/date display with 12/24-hour time
  • 3-year battery life

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

Customer Reviews

not good to swim (2010-03-15)
I specifically bought this watch to swim with it, but the lap button for some reason doesn't work well, and sometimes to be able to count the lap I have to press it hard and several times, which makes me even stop my training.

Great HR Watch! (2010-01-18)
I had one before; it was stolen... looked around and found this HR monitor Timex to the best deal that had the most function for the price.

Simplicity (2009-09-21)
I wanted an HRM that did just one thing: told me what me heart rate was. I don't need to recall anything, or download anything, or to know my heart's recovery time, or to time laps; just give me a device to do what it is supposed to do, do it well, and do it simply. I have had both Garmin and Polar HRMs which have worked well enough but had many more bells an whistles than I would ever use, and only added what was, for me, unnecessary and unwanted complexity. This Timex is perfect for what it is: a heart rate monitor. I like the fact that I can chose the display mode, either having the time in large digits, with the heart rate smaller, or display heart rate in large digits, with the time smaller, or just the heart rate.

The transmitter is the familiar chest strap, just wet the contacts and put it on. The transmitter transmits reliably and the monitor receives the signal no matter where or how far away my wrist is. Another feature that I like, and was the final deal maker, is that I can change the transmitter's battery myself. No messing around sending it back to the factory which means having to pay for shipping and handling and doing without the monitor for however long it takes.

Overall, the device is simplicity itself and does a great job.

Great watch, Read the Manual for Changing Sensor Battery! (2009-08-28)
I've always used Timex watches and like them a lot. This was my first heart rate monitor watch. After about 9 months the heart monitor sensor started giving anomalous readings to the watch. I washed the leads, changed the battery, tried everything, but it wouldn't work. I finally read the manual and noticed where it says when you change the sensor strap battery, you have to push the reset button just above the battery with the battery in. I did that and it worked great. Wonder how many others had a similar issue but didn't read the manual to push the reset button after changing the battery in the sensor. You have to use a paper click, small screw driver, or similar to push it in; it's just above the battery.

I gave this a '1' before I found the issue, and want to change it to a '4' now, but I cannot change it after the fact...

Love this watch! (2009-06-29)
I am now on my 2nd one of these hr watches and I am so very pleased with them. I've been running for 9 years and competing in triathlons for 3. HR even worked under my wetsuit! $50 was a steal and I've turned on 2 friends to this watch. Very very happy. FWIW, I heard the new version of this watch has a black background which can be hard to read in low light conditions. Also, I think they've had some quality issues as well. Good luck and hope you like it as much as I do.
