Reviews (2010-02-27)
I am researching 1 TB hard drive reviews here on Amazon and what I find is reviews on drives other what I am researching.
Example: Research on a 1 TB hard drive yeilds reviews on 1.5 TB hard drives. Go figure!
Upgrade to ST3500-641AS (2010-02-15)
The HDD in my computer was a little more than 4 years old and working with no problems. I decided to replace it with something newer - the old drive had a 3 year warrantee and gets used a lot. My biggest concern was with migrating dozens of programs to the new drive. After checking variious web-sites, I decided to go with Seagate because of the DiscWizzard utility. I was able to mirror my old drive in about 4 hours without any interruption. Then it took about 25 mins to pop the old one out and put the new Seagate in. Everything worked flawlessly! The Seagate is noticeably faster and much quieter than the old drive. It's been running for a week with no problems at all.
Very Pleased yet cautious (2010-02-11)
I have only been using the 1.5 Tb harddrive for less than 2 weeks and no problems. I had an unrelated computer problem which limited my time using my new seagate hard dirve. I also like the fact that it has a FIVE year warranty which was one of the selling points. I have read reviews about hdd's being damaged during shipping and that it can take weeks for the HDD to fail, so have to wait and see. i would recommend this product, if you do get a damaged drive thats where the 5 year warranty comes in.
Failed just under a year... (2010-01-21)
Purchased this drive back in Feb. 2009, daily use, died Jan. 2010. Everything worked great and then xx. No sign of a problem, not a slow death, just turned on the PC (Dell XPS 410) and got the click-of-death. Like some others with one of these failed drives the computer wouldn't boot and couldn't find the drive (not present). A real POS. The really frustrating part is this drive replaced an 18 mo. old OEM 320GB Samsung that died. My old, heavily used, 1997 Dimension XPS with its massive ;) 13GB Toshiba drive is still working fine, go figure. I guess it all boils down to hit or miss if you get a good or not.
At least it's still under warranty.
hard to install on Windows Vista system (2009-12-12)
I have windows Vista and when I attempted to install as a backup hard drive it wanted to make it a mirror image drive. Then I got a message that the drive was DEGRADED and have to take my computer to an expert to have it installed right. Plan on doing that next week and hope everything works as I want it. I will update my review when I get it fixed.
