Works well, but ipod attachment is cheap and occassionally difficult (2009-01-07)
Bought this for my daughter for long car trips. It seems to work well, but the ipod attachment is tricky and cheaply made. The first one I purchased from TechNGnet did not hold a charge and was returned as defective. Beware, this company charged me a 20% restocking fee for the return on a defective item, which is bad business. The second one I purchased was a refurb so I bought the extended warranty. Phillips reliability is not among the best so use caution with this manufacturer.

Not happy! (2008-10-20)
Another portable player with very low volume, and might as well not have a volume knob! Battery non-functional out of the box, brand new player and not refurbished. I have 2 other Philips players at home for TVs as well. Philips, why do you make the user turn off the display every time they begin a movie, or use a function on your products? What a pain in the butt, dummies!

Also, the battery sits right behind the case in the bottom of this 855. Why can't you put a door there to change out the battery just like any cheap cordless phone? Not too "green" of a concept forcing people to junk their players for a new one because the battery needs renewed. More sales for you, bad for us, and the environment, right?

Also what's with the controls on the player itself? They are incomplete! Not even a "stop" button? Controls on the remote, yea, but this thing is a fad player made to try and cash in on the iPod users, and a fairly lame attempt at that.

Only good thing about this player is a decent picture, decent menus, and its cosmetic appeal - everything else is weak. The low volume is the worst! Why Philips assumes everyone uses earphones, I don't know? I assumed the player was good before checking the battery and burned my box with some garbage. Turns out, battery circuit no good, and now I'm stuck with this junker. Last Philips product I'll buy. I plan on trying Panasonic, LG, or Toshiba from now on since Sony will not make DivX players because they own Sony Pictures, or I'd buy a Sony. Regards all!

very nice easy to use DVD player (2008-07-28)
I ve had this DVD player for a few months and I am very satisfied with the product. The 8 .5 inch screen is an ideal size for viewing, and I like the fact that the battery is built in. I would like a little longer battery life, but I ll take what I get. I found a nice case for it at Walmart for $4 and I bring it wherever I go.

I just use the set for DVD viewing. I don t bother with Ipods or the other things it can do. To me its a nice sized easy to use portable DVD player that beats the two Panasonics I have owned over the last few years.

Definately worth the money.

Only works with older video ipods (2008-07-04)
Works fine with an older 30G ipod, but not for the for the newer ones. On the 30G the screen was grainy at best. The only thing good about it is the remote when used to send commands when you use it in a Hotel or somewhere else. If someone has a solution, would love to hear as Philips would not reply to e mails in the support section.

mediocre product (2008-05-24)
I purchased this dvd ipod combo thinking I could use my new 160G ipod classic with it...sure enough it does not work...the construction of the product is fair and the video quality is just ok. All-in-all I was pretty dissapointed and very angry that there was no description that said it does not work with the ipod classic. Furthermore when I tried to return it...they take 20% off the top of the prodcut for restocking...and you have to pay for shipping. Come On!@!!!
