Love this player. Wish it were Unbox Compatible (2010-03-14)
Great little player for the price. Fabulous picture quality and sound is great. Only drawback is it is not compatible with Amazon Unbox. The external speakers are a nice bonus. I can sit by my pool and listen to music without needing earphones. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the Amazon Unbox compatibility issue.
Great product,great price (2010-03-03)
Its awesome. If you dont want to pay lots of money for a good quality mp3 player, this would be your choice !
An OK player but with a video glitch (2009-11-13)
PROS: Screen size being 3.5". Sound Quality. Very nice solid feel when held. Battery life. Stereo speakers. Radio can be set to play via the speakers.
CONS: Resolution being 320x240px on a 3.5". Random skips when watching videos. No music rating. Extremely slow picture thumbnails update. No extra memory slot for add-in memory cards.
Bought this player for about a year, just about everything worked as advertised, I have been using it mostly for watching videos especially full length movies. The supplied software converter does not do a good job in taking movies from different formats, I had to find a 3rd party application to do the conversion. The player's specs says it takes movies at upto 384kbps data rate, but I've had movies converted at 500kbps or more and the player still played them. However, from my many movies watching experience with this player, there is one glitch, or a bug, that annoys me a great deal. Very often, during video playback, the sa6185 skips to the next movie on the list when a movie is playing. This is extremely hedious when you are watching a movie in its finale and then all of the sudden the player skips to the next movie on your video list. So I always had to go back to the same movie I was watching and had to start from the beginning and pressed fast forward(by holding down the right arrow key), the 4x fast forward is just not fast enough, I have wasted a huge amount of time just to let the movie ff to the point where it skipped. This has been very frustrating and sometimes to the point that I would just give up. If Philips realized this bug and released a fix, then this player would be a real gem to have.
Good condition (2009-09-15)
Product was used but worked fine for the most part, was in good condition.Came on time.
Love/Hate Relationship with this player! (2009-08-25)
I got this for a birthday present. I love the screen size, 3 1/2 inches, and the picture is very clear! Still too small to watch subtitles on movies, though. I got the 37 model so I could use it more easily with Windows Media Player.
Software installation was very easy, and I LOVE the fact that I can keep it in my purse, and whip it out to keep both kids happy while waiting at the doctor - built in speakers mean that you can watch movies without a headset!!
HOWEVER. Two days into it, the screen went blank. When I called support, well, the call was routed to India, LOL, and I got hung up on four times before everything was set up. That initial support call actually took about five hours. They said they'd send me a replacement, in 3-4 WEEKS. Well, ok, I can be patient. Three weeks later, they call me to tell me they don't have it, and can only offer one with a smaller screen, no speakers built in, AND, not the "37" model. After two weeks going back and forth, they tell me they will NEVER have a "37" model to replace this with - they only replace with 17s.
SO, they're going to refund my money. If I hadn't had to wait three weeks to find out they couldn't replace it, I could have asked AMAZON for a return and replacement - but the 30 days were up by then.
On the bright side, I liked this player so much, I'm going to try a second time with another identical player.
