In fact, the drive is designed to withstand vertical drops of up to 35 inches while in non-operating mode. (Dropping the drive while it's in operation, however, could cause damage, so be careful!)

The best thing out there in my opinion. (2009-12-09)
These drives are gems. Sturdy, reliable, bus powered @ 7200rpm.. these are quickly becoming the de-facto standard transport drive here in Hollywood. I have about 10 of them now and haven't had one go bad yet. With all drives it's not a matter of "if" but "when", so the fact that I've been using these drives for years with no downers says a lot. I almost gave up on Lacie after their D2 line because they were such a disaster, but these drives are salvaging their reputation. Highly recommended!
Best External Hard Drive Ever!!!!!!!!!! (2009-10-28)
This is the best external hard drive ever. It's simple to use, great looking, & fast. I would recommend this to anyone looking to purchase an external hard drive.
Excellent and Reliable (2009-08-24)
I use this Lacie hard drive regularly for my workspace as I edit high definition video. The drive is fast and reliable and is powered by the connection cable (USB, Firewire) making it very convenient. A great bargain in a compact drive, I highly recommend it.
better to stick with wd passport drives (2009-08-20)
i carry around a lot of data for my work and this is why the lacie isn't for me...
#1 it requires 2 cords...a mini usb and usb power cord... since i move around a lot and am always in a rush...it's a drag to have to worry about carrying around another cord... not only that...everyone has a mini usb...but...no one has a usb power cord... so...if i forget/lose it...well...sol...
#2 the need for 2 usb cords is sometimes a problem because not all computers have enough usb ports available
#3 the drive gets HOT... in my opinion...anything that gets that hot is a long term longevity problem
#4 the drive is large and bulky... i removed the orange rubber case just to make it easier to carry around... fortunately i'm not clumsy and prone to dropping things...
#5 the one positive...it is fast... i bought this drive as a time saver since it transfers large amounts of data fast...
so...if you use it sitting on your desk...it's a 5 star... if you move around a lot and carry lots of other stuff... well...better to buy a western digital passport... they are very light...small case and require only 1 usb cord... they're just not as fast since they're 5400 rpm drives...
Durable and Portable (2009-04-02)
I've been pretty impressed with this little drive so far. I bought two using one as a backup with Microsofts SyncToy program. The chasis low weight aluminum does a good job and keeping the heat low.
The one thing i would take note of with these drives is that even though you do not have to plug them into a wall outlet i've found more often than not i have to use the second usb plug for extra power. Perhaps maybe the 7200 rpm version needs more power than the 5400 rpm? Well nevertheless expect this drive to require two ports.
