Nice! (2009-03-03)
The Iomega 20x Super DVD Writer w/ Dual Layer support is a great product, and is priced very reasonably.
I've burned several discs, the output is flawless.
Dissapointing packaging - no power switch, short USB cable (2008-09-20)
I had inconsistant results writing discs at max speed (Memorex DVD+R DL). There is no power switch on the unit. As an external device this means I have to leave it on all the time or pull the power cord. This is simply unacceptable packaging. They provide a VERY short USB cable - useless unless you can place the unit right next to the computer. Finally, the bump in the case means it has to be on the top of a stack of equipment (e.g., other DVD writers, HHDs, etc.).
Doesn't work on Macs! (2008-08-14)
Just a warning to any mac users who are considering this - I couldn't find any info on Amazon about system compatibility, but then saw this item in Mac Zone & figured it would be ok. I just got it today & have to send it back now - I contacted Iomega's live chat to see if drivers were available, or if they made a similar item for Macs, and was sorely disappointed in their customer service. The rep was very slow to reply, only answered my first question, disconnected me when I signed back on with the second question, and finally answered me when I signed on a third time with a new name. Frankly I was shocked, I'm not used to such terrible customer service! Anyway I'm sure the unit is great for you pc folks, but I hope you don't have any technical problems & need to contact iomega for help!!
I'm giving it 4 stars because I have to give it something, I honestly don't know how good it is though.
Excellent. Very fast! (2008-06-26)
I am so happy with this Iomega DVD recorder. I copied a DVD in about 8 minutes. I used Memorex dvd-r (which is all I had at the time) and there was no problem. (I had a maddog dvd recorder before & it was very hard to use).
Everything went so smoothly with this recorder - I was holding my breath, sure something would go wrong. - But no, 8 minutes.
I think I will now be brave enough to back-up my files more often. Trusting that my Iomega will continue the good work!
trouble with cd blank brand writing (2008-03-31)
This is a really fine unit with one exception. I attempted to write to some older Imation blank CD-Rs and the unit didn't recognize the blank as existing. After calls to Imation (Memorex) and Iomega, I learned that the Iomega does not support all manufacturers' products. Worse, the tech with whom I spoke had no idea as to who's discs this unit might support. Buy discs locally with the reservation that they may be returned if this Iomega unit doesn't recognize them.
